It helps if you include your iPhone model, your iOS version, and what you expected to happen instead.
Common questions
Getting started
What happens on the first day?
You adopt a cat — one of six coats, and a name you choose — then read
three short cards about how the app works. After that the day's board
appears: one reflection, one relaxation and one act of self-care.
How long does a day take?
About a minute per task. The breathing exercise is a full sixty
seconds by design, because a minute is a real but non-intimidating
commitment. Everything else is as long as you want it to be.
Where are the tasks coming from?
Each board is generated from the date itself rather than from the
moment you open the app, so the same day always brings the same three
tasks. It makes the board feel like a thing that exists rather than
something the app rolls each time.
Can I change my cat's name or coat later?
Not currently — you choose both when you adopt, and there is no rename
screen yet. If you would genuinely rather start again, Start over
from scratch in Settings resets the whole app, including your
streak and everything you have bought.
The streak
I missed a day. Is my streak gone?
Almost certainly not. If you had a cat nap banked, it was spent
automatically the moment the day rolled over — including for days that
passed while the app was closed. The streak only returns to zero when a
full day is missed with no naps left, and even then your best streak is
kept forever.
How do I get more cat naps?
You start with two. You earn another every seven full days, up to a
maximum of three. They are spent for you and never ask permission.
What counts as a full day?
All three tasks completed. Finish one or two and the day is held:
your streak neither advances nor breaks, and no nap is spent. Nothing
is deducted for a partial day.
Can the cat ever be sad or disappointed?
No. There is no sad, sick or disappointed state anywhere in the app —
the worst your cat can look is hopeful. That is a rule the code is
tested against, not just a promise.
Yarn balls and the shop
How do I earn yarn balls?
Twelve for each task you finish, a twenty-five bonus for clearing the
whole board, and sixty more each time your streak reaches a multiple of
seven. You also start with forty.
Can I buy yarn balls with real money?
No. There are no in-app purchases anywhere in Purring, no subscriptions,
and no advertising. The shop is entirely funded by the tasks you do.
Do I ever lose something I bought?
No. Items are permanent once bought, and there is no way to spend
yourself into a corner. Two pieces — the Tiny Crown and the Cat Tree —
also ask for a streak before they unlock, so there is something money
cannot buy.
Reminders
Does Purring send notifications?
Only if you ask it to. Both reminders are off by default: a Morning
hello, where your cat says good morning, and an Evening
wind-down, a nudge to finish the last task if you want one.
Can I choose the times?
Yes, each one has its own time and its own switch in Settings, and
turning them off removes the pending notification immediately.
Your data
Where is my data stored?
In one small file inside the app's own container on your iPhone. Your
streak, your journal entries, your mood check-ins and your cat all live
there. Nothing is uploaded, and the app contains no network code at all
— airplane mode changes nothing about how it behaves.
How do I delete everything?
Start over from scratch in Settings erases your streak, history,
notes and everything you have bought. Deleting the app from the home
screen removes the file entirely. Neither can be undone, and there is no
backup to restore from.
Do you get crash reports?
Purring collects nothing by itself. If you have opted in to sharing
analytics with Apple, Apple may pass on anonymised crash reports; that
choice lives in iOS Settings and belongs to you, not to us. See the
privacy policy for the whole picture.
Accessibility
Does it respect Reduce Motion?
Yes, throughout. The cat's breathing, blinking and tail swish are
derived from a clock rather than stacked animations, so turning Reduce
Motion on stops them cleanly instead of leaving something half-finished.
Does it work with VoiceOver?
Partly. The cat and every control carry labels, and no task depends on
colour alone. The drawing-heavy screens are not yet fully navigable, and
Dynamic Type at the very largest sizes is still being worked on. This is
a known gap, not a finished feature.
Is there any sound?
None, by design. There are no spoken cues and no audio guidance, so every
exercise has to be legible on screen alone. The only feedback beyond the
screen is haptic: petting the cat produces a stream of soft taps.
Known limitations
Listed plainly, because a support page that only lists wins is not much use to anyone.
- Reminders fire at a fixed clock time. There is no "remind me at a better moment" behaviour based on when you actually open the app.
- No Live Activity, no widgets, and no Apple Health integration.
- Accessibility is partial, as described above.
- No iCloud sync and no backup, so deleting the app loses the streak.
- You cannot rename your cat or change their coat without starting over.
- iPhone only. There is no iPad-specific layout and no Android version yet.
If you are struggling
Purring is a habit-builder, not therapy and not a medical device. It cannot help you in a crisis and it will never pretend to.
If things feel heavy, please talk to someone you trust or a professional. You deserve that support, and an app is not a substitute for it.
