Purring
The short version: Purring is a free, offline habit-builder. Use it as much as you like. It is not medical care, it comes with no warranty, and you should not rely on it to keep the only copy of anything you care about.
1. These terms
These terms are an agreement between you and the individual developer of Purring ("we", "us") covering the Purring app for iPhone and the website at purringapp.com. By using either, you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the app or the site.
Purring is not yet available on the App Store. Until it is, the app is pre-release software provided for testing, and it may change substantially or be withdrawn before release.
2. Your licence to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Purring on Apple devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not copy, sell, rent, sublicense, reverse-engineer or redistribute the app, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it.
3. Apple
You and we acknowledge that these terms are between you and us alone, and not with Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Purring. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price (which, the app being free, is nothing). Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you.
Your use of the app is also subject to the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions and the standard Apple end-user licence agreement that applies to apps downloaded from the App Store.
4. Not medical advice
Purring is a habit-builder. It is not therapy, not counselling, not a medical device, and not a substitute for professional care. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, and nothing it shows you is medical advice.
If you are struggling with your mental health, please talk to someone you trust or a qualified professional. If you believe you are in crisis, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line straight away.
5. Price and purchases
Purring is free. There are no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, and no advertising. Yarn balls are a game currency with no monetary value; they cannot be bought, sold, exchanged or transferred, and they are not property.
6. Your content, and keeping your own copies
Anything you write in Purring — journal entries, mood check-ins, notes — belongs to you. We claim no rights over it, and we never see it, because it stays on your device.
That also means there is no backup. The app stores everything in a single file on your iPhone, so deleting the app, resetting the device, or choosing Start over from scratch erases it permanently. Do not use Purring as the only place you keep something you would be upset to lose.
7. Acceptable use
Please do not use Purring in a way that breaks the law, interferes with anyone else's use of it, or attempts to circumvent its licensing or technical protections.
8. Availability and changes
We may update, change or discontinue the app or this website at any time. We are not obliged to provide updates, and we may stop distributing the app altogether. Because the app runs entirely on your device with no service behind it, an app you already have will keep working if we stop shipping updates — although it may not work on future versions of iOS.
9. No warranty
Purring is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components, or that any defect will be corrected.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, goodwill or anticipated savings, arising out of or relating to your use of Purring or this website. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the app or HKD 100.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under mandatory consumer law in your place of residence.
11. This website
The text, design and artwork on purringapp.com belong to us, except where otherwise stated. The cat on this site is drawn in code, and the app icon is our own artwork. You are welcome to link to the site; please do not present its content as your own.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the courts of Hong Kong have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, the date at the top of this page changes. Continuing to use the app or the website after a change means you accept the updated terms.
